Since 2018, I have had the pleasure of supervising Dr. Kelsey Smoker Baker. Dr. Smoker Baker is a Post Doctoral Fellow and Registered Psychological Assistant specializing in trauma, anxiety, and stress for adolescents and adults. In 2018, Dr. Smoker Baker completed her pre-doctoral residency at Clifford Beers Clinic, a designated trauma treatment center located in New Haven, Connecticut. She brings with her to the Bay Area over 8 years of experience providing specialized therapy to individuals in the middle of stressful circumstances, life transitions, and traumatic events. Dr. Smoker Baker is currently in the process of becoming a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of California and is operating under the supervision of me, Dr. Jessica Farber. I have every confidence in the exceptional nature of her clinical work and feel that she has a unique way of connecting to and helping her clients.
Dr. Smoker Baker is an east coast native and she enjoys spending time in the sunshine, growing her patio garden, and browsing the subreddit r/aww. She currently lives in San Jose with her husband and senior rescue dog, Crouton.
Introducing Dr. Smoker Baker
A note from Dr. Smoker Baker:
Work and Clinical Experience:
I genuinely seek to build an authentic therapy relationship with each of my clients, as research shows that therapy works best when there is a strong connection between the therapist and client. While the treatment I provide is rooted in scientific research and guided by relevant theoretical principles, I strongly believe in meeting you where you’re at in your journey - judgement free - with empathy, warmth, safety, and a sense of humor. No blank stares or endless “and how does that make you feels” here - which can sometimes feel cold, sterile, or stuffy. I am eager to help you build your goals for therapy, and have extensive expertise in assessing, diagnosing, and treating trauma, anxiety, and stress (including general life stress, school stress, health stress, or social stress) with teens and adults across all walks of life.
Whether you are coming to therapy for the first time, or have attended therapy before, my hope is to facilitate lasting change, growth, and healing for past wounds or emerging stressful or overwhelming symptoms. More specifically, I tailor your therapy treatment to meet your goals using a variety of evidenced based treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). In our work together I primarily use a Psychodynamic Therapy framework to build insight into how past wounds impact your current symptoms.
